At the start of this week I came across a situation in which left me feeling a lot of regret and anguish as I think I took the wrong option. As a matter of fact, I know I chose the wrong option. To save or not to save? Advertisements
How many of us are guilty of getting onto Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social network to only say “I wish my life was as fun/successful/happy as (insert person)”. It’s in our nature to benchmark ourselves on our progress in comparison to others because we’ve had it done to us all our lives! What is Social Comparison? From PsychologyToday.com: Social comparison theory states that we determine our own social and personal worth based on how we stack up against others. As a result, we are constantly making self and other evaluations across a variety of domains (for example, attractiveness, wealth, intelligence, and success).
I’m a firm believer in the theories (if there are any) that certain physical or mental weaknesses aren’t just something that can be inhibiting but also something that allows the person to do things that those who do not have them can’t do. According to the opening paragraph of Wikipedia: Obsessive–compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a personality disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, excessive attention to details, mental and interpersonal control, and a need for power over one’s environment, at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency.
I think the stage for me to yearn for the flashy hustle and bustle associated with viewing the fireworks or god forbid wanting to squeeze into a dress and heels to go to a nightclub is over. I no longer see the appeal of it because I’d rather spend my new year creating a sort of symbolic path to follow for the year. My new year was spent with a group of my closest friends under the moonlight with some snacks on a quaint beach listening to the sound of the waves come onto the shore. I guess I’d like my whole year to be like this – so simple yet heartwarming.
(From left to right) Composition by Excell, China Glaze Nail Lacquer in For Audrey and Cutex Quick’n Go! in French Porcelain, Personalised calling cards from Vistaprint (designed myself), VOSS sparkling water, Molly and Mimi 2015 A5 diary from Target, Blackmores Nails, Hair and Skin supplement 60pc, Sportsgirl Lip Colour in Catwalk Queen and My Beauty Diary sheet mask in Arbutin Whitening. New year = New me Don’t kid yourself! Stop with that new year new me crap and deciding to suddenly be more healthy by going to the gym on the 2nd of January only to quit on the 9th just a week later. If you haven’t been one of these people, I can guarantee you know some of these people.
